BUILDING: San Francisco Tower Earns Earthquake-Resiliency Certification
October 24, 2016
181 Fremont’s luxury condos is San Francisco’s newest example of earthquake resiliency. The building is one of an elite few to achieve the REDi Gold Rating. This impressive resilience, which was created by structural engineers Jay Paul Company and Arup, the company that developed REDi, is partly due to viscous dampers in the building’s steel structure that can absorb impact and withstand strong winds. In addition, these innovations mitigate wind vibrations, thus eliminating the need for a large mass roof damper. As a result, the entire penthouse floor is usable space.
